NSCDC dismantles major illegal crude oil tapping operation in Rivers

In a coordinated and highly effective operation, the Special Intelligence Squad (SIS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) successfully uncovered and dismantled a massive illegal crude oil tapping point in Rivers State. The operation, which targeted a clandestine pipeline network stretching over two kilometers, marked a significant victory in the fight against oil theft in the country.

The illegal operation, carried out by criminals attempting to siphon crude oil from national pipelines, was foiled when NSCDC operatives, acting on reliable intelligence, identified and disrupted the illicit pipeline. During the operation, key exhibits were recovered from the scene, including a locally fabricated T-connector, long extension pipes, and hoses, which were used to facilitate the theft.

This successful raid represents a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to protect the nation’s natural resources and environmental integrity. The discovery highlights the continuous threat posed by illegal oil activities, which not only drain national assets but also lead to significant environmental degradation, including the pollution of local water sources and agricultural land.

The NSCDC has reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts to protect the nation’s pipelines and critical infrastructure from sabotage. In a statement following the operation, the Corps emphasized that the fight against oil theft and environmental destruction is a top priority. “NSCDC remains resolute in its mission to safeguard Nigeria’s oil resources, and the war against oil theft is non-negotiable,” said a senior official.

With this latest operation, the NSCDC continues to send a strong message to criminal syndicates involved in illegal oil activities: the law enforcement agencies are determined, well-prepared, and will stop at nothing to protect the nation’s economic and environmental well-being.
