The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended five individuals suspected of vandalizing critical national infrastructure in Abuja.
Addressing journalists at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command headquarters, the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, revealed that the suspects were intercepted last Saturday with a truckload of vandalized materials at Dei-Dei U-Turn near Mopol Barracks. The suspects reportedly evaded an earlier attempt to arrest them at Aso Radio, Katampe axis.
Investigations indicate that the suspects were transporting the materials from Guata Junction in Nasarawa State to an iron melting facility in Sabo Wuse, Niger State. The recovered items include drainage covers, bridge protection pipes, communication mast accessories, and several other critical infrastructure components.
Dr. Odumosu reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure, stating, “We will not tolerate individuals sabotaging the government’s efforts to improve the lives of FCT residents.” He highlighted the role of constant night patrols by the Corps’ intelligence and tactical teams in curbing such activities.
The arrested suspects—Aminu Yusuf (25), Saminu Yusuf (20), Adamu Sani (20), Suleiman Yusuf (20), and Usman Jalo (27)—are currently under investigation. Odumosu assured that due process would be followed to ensure justice is served.
He also issued a stern warning to vandals, scavengers, and other saboteurs operating within the FCT, urging them to desist or face the law. Odumosu called on the public to provide timely intelligence to aid the Corps in its mission to protect public assets.
