The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, has directed an immediate intensification of intelligence gathering efforts following the recent massacre of unarmed civilians in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Dr. Audi, who visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment alongside other security chiefs, condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric and unjustifiable. He pledged the NSCDC’s commitment to working with other security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“The killing of armless women and children is a mindless and cruel act. These killings must stop,” he said. “We must be strategic, decisive, and resilient in restoring peace and order in the state.”
The NSCDC boss issued a directive to the Zonal Commander and Benue State Commandant to deploy covert operatives, special forces, and tactical units across the state. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among security stakeholders to launch a renewed offensive against the assailants.
“All hands must be on deck. There must be maximum deployment of all special forces, counter-terrorism units, and intelligence operatives for both covert and overt operations,” he added, aligning his directive with President Bola Tinubu’s order to bring the attackers to book.
Dr. Audi assured that the NSCDC high command will deploy additional tactical personnel and logistics to bolster operations in Benue. He also stressed the importance of collaboration with the military, DSS, Nigeria Police, local security networks, and community leaders to secure credible intelligence.
He commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his support to the NSCDC in the state and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives, property, and critical national infrastructure.
