NSCDC orders mining marshal to withdraw petition against police

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has directed the Commander of the Mining Marshal, Attah Onoja, to withdraw his petition to the Senate over alleged police attacks and obstruction of its operations in Nasarawa State.

NSCDC spokesman, Afolabi Babawale, said in a statement that the petition was filed without the authorisation of the Corps’ management. The Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi, viewed the action as beyond the Commander’s remit and an embarrassment to the NSCDC’s interagency relations.

Audi has apologised to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the embarrassment caused by the petition and requested its immediate withdrawal to foster a harmonious working relationship between the Police and NSCDC.

The CG has also ordered a joint investigation with the Police to determine the facts of the alleged incident and promised continued cooperation to enhance national security.
