NSCDC parades four suspected streetlight vandals in Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended four suspects for allegedly vandalizing streetlight poles in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Parading the suspects at the NSCDC FCT Command headquarters on Friday, Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu disclosed that the individuals were caught in the act at different locations within the city.

“Today, we have four suspects in connection with the vandalism of streetlight poles across various areas in the city center,” Odumosu said. “This arrest is part of our continuous efforts to combat vandalism and safeguard public infrastructure in the FCT.”

According to the Commandant, the suspects include Japheth Adams, 21, and Friday Ojo, 51, who were apprehended at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday while vandalizing medium-sized streetlight poles near Eden Garden in Utako.

In a separate incident, Ibrahim Aliyu, 19, and Hassan Abdullahi, 23, were caught dismantling large streetlight poles near the Moshood Abiola National Stadium and the National Hospital junction around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Recovered items include one medium-sized and two large traffic light poles.

Odumosu assured the public that the suspects are undergoing thorough investigation and will be prosecuted accordingly. He also warned potential vandals to desist from such acts, emphasizing that the Command has intensified 24-hour surveillance across the metropolis and surrounding areas.

The Commandant further urged FCT residents to support the NSCDC by providing credible intelligence and timely information to aid in protecting public infrastructure.
