NSCDC uncovers illegal crude oil depot in Abia, impounds oil-laden vehicle

The Special Intelligence Squad (SIS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered a residential building used to store stolen crude oil in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State. The operation, which took place on Friday, May 2, 2025, followed credible intelligence that led to the discovery of approximately 3,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil.

The illicit product was found concealed inside a Toyota Camry, with registration number KSF 691 HK, as well as packaged in cellophane bags and sacks within the residential premises, allegedly prepared for transportation to an illegal refining site.

This operation underscores the NSCDC’s ongoing commitment, under the leadership of Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, CFR, PhD, to rid Nigeria’s oil sector of criminal elements and safeguard the environment in oil-producing communities.

According to a statement signed by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, efforts are underway to apprehend the individuals behind the illegal operation, who fled the scene upon sighting security personnel.

The NSCDC reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with the government and host communities to enhance environmental safety and combat oil theft across the country.
