NSCDC unveils gender policy II to strengthen inclusive security

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched its Gender Policy II, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive, people-centred security delivery and enhanced institutional professionalism.

The policy was unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja at a ceremony attended by senior government officials, security sector leaders, development partners and representatives of civil society organisations.

Speaking at the event, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, described inclusivity as a cornerstone of a credible and effective security institution. Representing the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Audi said the new policy underscores the Corps’ resolve to align its operations with global best practices while advancing national security objectives.

He explained that Gender Policy II is aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, improving operational effectiveness and ensuring that personnel discharge their duties with professionalism, dignity and respect for human rights.

According to Audi, integrating gender responsiveness into security operations will enhance service delivery, promote accountability and build public confidence, particularly among vulnerable and underserved populations.

Participants at the event, supported by UKFIDO and SPRING, emphasised the role of inclusive security frameworks in protecting citizens and advancing social justice. They noted that policies promoting equity and broad participation are essential to effective law enforcement and national stability.

The launch of Gender Policy II also reaffirms the NSCDC’s commitment to the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. Stakeholders described the policy as a significant milestone in the Corps’ ongoing efforts to institutionalise inclusivity, equity and professionalism across its nationwide operations.
