Ojulari charts bold course for NNPC, pledges to build a world-class national energy champion

Just days after assuming office as the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari has met with staff at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, pledging to pursue the company’s bold ambitions and build an NNPC that every Nigerian can be proud of.

According to Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., addressing thousands of employees during a townhall meeting on Thursday, Ojulari described his new role as both a privilege and a profound responsibility, stressing that NNPC Ltd. stands at the heart of Nigeria’s energy future.

“We stand at the gateway of a new era—one that demands courage, professionalism, and a relentless drive for excellence,” Ojulari said. “The task before us is great, yet the opportunity to redefine Nigeria’s energy future is even greater. Now is the time to turn our transformation promise into performance.”

Setting Ambitious Targets
Ojulari unveiled an ambitious agenda aimed at transforming NNPC Ltd. into a globally competitive energy company. Key targets include:

  • Attracting $30 billion in sectoral investments by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030.
  • Increasing crude oil production to over 2 million barrels per day by 2027, with a target of 3 million by 2030.
  • Expanding refining capacity to 200,000 barrels per day by 2027 and 500,000 by 2030.
  • Growing gas production to 10 billion cubic feet per day by 2027, and 12 billion by 2030.
  • Enhancing nationwide energy access and affordability.

To achieve these goals, Ojulari emphasized the need for structural reforms, agile decision-making, robust performance management, transparent partnerships, and narrative control.

People-Driven Transformation
Highlighting the critical role of NNPC Ltd.’s workforce, the GCEO said the company’s transformation would be powered by its people. He committed to fostering an inclusive, performance-driven culture that allows both seasoned professionals and younger talents to thrive.

“We will provide the best environment where experience meets innovation. Our success will be powered by empowered employees,” he stated. “Together, we will build a high-performing, globally competitive NNPC Ltd. that is proudly Nigerian and proudly world-class.”

Ojulari also pledged stronger engagement with internal and national labour unions, advocating for a relationship built on mutual trust and shared purpose.

A Renewed Vision
Positioning NNPC Ltd. as “a renewed, forward-facing, and future-ready organisation,” Ojulari urged employees to embrace the company’s transformation journey and take pride in its evolution into a commercially-driven, limited liability company.

“It’s time we tell our story—one of innovation, reform, and national pride,” he said. “Let’s lead with integrity, act with urgency, and bring our best to every task.”

The GCEO’s remarks mark a decisive beginning for his leadership and signal a renewed commitment to delivering value, performance, and sustainable energy solutions for Nigeria and beyond.
