Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved an annual ₦1 billion bursary scheme for students of Edo origin enrolled in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
According to the his Chief Press Secretary Owaen Fred Itua, the governor made the announcement following a recent town hall meeting with Edo youth, where various youth leaders passionately advocated for financial support to ease the burden on students pursuing higher education.
This new initiative, approved just eight months into Governor Okpebholo’s tenure, is set to become an annual programme. It aims to provide sustained educational support and promote academic excellence among Edo youths.
Governor Okpebholo stated that eligibility for the bursary will require proper verification through the applicant’s local government of origin to ensure only genuine indigenes benefit from the scheme.
He affirmed that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader agenda to improve access to quality education and empower young people to contribute to the development of the state and the nation.
Further details regarding application processes and timelines will be released by the appropriate government agencies.
