His Royal Highness Alhaji Adamu Baba, the Ona of Abaji and Chairman of the FCT Council of Chiefs, paid a significant courtesy visit to General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
According to Director, Defence Information Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the visit, which took place on October 12, 2023, served as an opportunity for the traditional leader to express his appreciation for the dedication of the Armed Forces in combating security challenges both nationally and within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Accompanied by other traditional rulers from the FCT, Dr. Adamu Baba used the occasion to discuss his concerns regarding the escalating rate of criminal activities in Abuja, notably the ‘one chance’ criminal incidents. He implored the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to intensify their efforts in addressing this pressing issue.
In response, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the CDS, expressed his gratitude to the respected traditional rulers for their visit. General Musa stressed the collective responsibility of security, emphasizing that it is the duty of every citizen to actively participate in safeguarding their communities. He urged traditional leaders to encourage their subjects to adopt a “see something and say something” approach, enabling the military to take prompt and effective actions in combating crime. Additionally, he urged the leaders to prioritize community policing as a proactive measure to address criminality within the FCT.
This visit and the subsequent discussions underscore the importance of collaborative efforts between traditional leadership and the Armed Forces in enhancing security within the nation’s capital. The Ona of Abaji’s visit has shed light on the imperative for increased security measures in Abuja, prompting a call for the mobilization of resources and efforts to curtail criminal activities.
