In a significant development under Operation Delta Sanity, Nigeria Navy Ship BEECROFT successfully detected and arrested the Motor Tanker SWEET MIRI, suspected of involvement in crude oil theft. The apprehension took place approximately 174 nautical miles off the coast of Nigeria towards Benin Republic on Saturday, March 2, 2024.
Rear Admiral MB Hassan, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, confirmed that the apprehended ship, SWEET MIRI, had been flagged as a Vessel of Interest on the Navy’s watch list. The vessel is suspected to have been engaged in the illicit activity of stealing crude oil, amounting to approximately 2 million litres of the suspected product.


Operation Delta Sanity, a strategic initiative aimed at curbing illegal activities in the maritime domain, has been instrumental in combating various forms of criminality, including crude oil theft.
