Operation DELTA SANITY troops dismantles illegal refining site, seizes contraband iin Bayelsa

In a significant breakthrough on Monday, April 22, 2024, Forward Operating Base FORMOSO successfully uncovered and neutralized an illicit refining operation in Iseleogono, Bayelsa State. The operation, part of the ongoing efforts under Operation DELTA SANITY, revealed the presence of two refining ovens along with a storage depot containing an unspecified quantity of stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

Additionally, law enforcement personnel impounded two fiber boats loaded with sacks of illegally refined AGO, two outboard engines, and a pumping machine in Nembe Local Government Area (LGA), also within Bayelsa State. These coordinated efforts mark a significant stride in the battle against illegal refining activities and the illicit trade of petroleum products in the region.

Operation DELTA SANITY, a concerted effort by security agencies to combat oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and other criminal activities in the Niger Delta region, has been instrumental in curbing the activities of oil bunkering syndicates and safeguarding vital oil infrastructure.

The discovery and dismantling of the illegal refining site underscore the determination of security forces to uphold the rule of law and protect national resources from exploitation and criminality. Authorities are expected to intensify efforts to root out such illegal operations and prosecute those involved in these illicit activities.

The successful operation highlights the importance of collaborative efforts between security agencies and local communities in tackling the scourge of oil theft and illegal refining, thereby promoting sustainable development and economic stability in the region.
