Troops belonging to Sector 1 of Operation Hadarin Daji deployed at Forward Operating Base Mada in Zamfara state on August 11, 2023 while conducting a routine patrol along the Shemori – Yandoto road within the Marke general area, came across an unspecified group of armed Bandits.
According to a post on the confirm social media page of the Nigerian Army, the troops engaged in a fierce firefight that lasted several hours, the troops demonstrated their superior firepower.
As a result, the bandits were compelled to flee in disarray, seeking refuge within the nearby forest. Responding swiftly, the Operation Hadarin Daji troops pursued the retreating bandits deep into the forest terrain.
This pursuit had the effect of causing the bandits to abandon two civilians who had been taken hostage. The rescuing troops were successful in freeing these individuals, both of whom emerged from the ordeal unharmed. Additionally, two operational motorcycles belonging to the fleeing bandits were seized by the troops.
Upon interviewing the rescued individuals, it was determined that they were Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie, a former Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau, and his son. Preliminary investigations indicated that the victims had been kidnapped by armed bandits the previous night from their residence. The bandits had transported them to the forest before the timely intervention of the troops led to their rescue.
Following these events, Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie and his son were joyfully reunited with their respective families. The troops continued to uphold a proactive stance in the region, maintaining a heightened level of vigilance and executing regular patrols to ensure the safety of the area.
