Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a kidnapped victim during ongoing search and rescue operations within their area of responsibility.
The rescue occurred on January 27, 2026, when troops deployed at Dogon Gawa in Taraba State, while conducting sustained operations, sighted a man who had been abandoned in the bush by his captors. The victim was later identified as Mr. Ghali.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Mr. Ghali and another victim, Mr. Simon Oluchukwu, were abducted on January 11, 2026, at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, in Benue State. During the incident, their driver was killed by the kidnappers.
Following his rescue, Mr. Ghali was promptly debriefed, given necessary medical attention, and reunited with his family.
Commenting on the success of the operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their courage, professionalism and determination. He assured that military operations in the area would be further intensified to secure the release of the remaining abducted victim and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Brigadier General Uwa also called on members of the public to continue supporting military efforts by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
The Army said the successful rescue highlights the commitment and gallantry of 6 Brigade troops in safeguarding lives and property, adding that the Brigade remains resolute in its determination to eliminate criminal elements and restore lasting peace in the region.
