Outrage over unprovoked military killing of senior police officer in Kebbi

In a shocking and deeply disturbing incident, Superintendent of Police Halliru Liman, the Divisional Police Officer of Wusagu Division, Kebbi State Police Command, was brutally killed by military personnel on August 28, 2024.

In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer, Zamfara State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar said the incident occurred around 10:30 AM when SP Liman was en-route to a monthly conference in Birnin Kebbi.

According to reports, SP Liman was stopped by a group of military personnel led by an officer identified as Hassan, attached to OPHD Sector 6 in the Dan Marke area of Bukkuyum, Zamfara State but despite identifying himself as a police officer, SP Liman was met with unprovoked aggression.

Abubakar said in a shocking turn of events, Hassan allegedly pointed his gun at SP Liman and shot him in the head, killing him instantly.

He said the circumstances of this heinous act have raised serious concerns and condemnation.

The Zamfara State Police Command has strongly denounced the unprovoked attack, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident. The military’s actions are seen as a clear violation of the rules of engagement and the principles of inter-agency cooperation.

Authorities are urged to take immediate action to address this grave incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
