PDP BoT urges unity amid internal crisis

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened its 79th meeting on Wednesday, critically assessing the state of the nation and internal party affairs. The meeting, chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara, resulted in key resolutions addressing both party unity and national governance concerns.

The BoT expressed deep concerns over unresolved disputes within the National Working Committee (NWC), calling on all party leaders and stakeholders to prioritize stability and unity over personal or sectional interests. To address the ongoing dispute regarding the position of National Secretary—currently subject to legal proceedings—the BoT established a committee led by Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) to mediate and report back with recommendations.

Amid the internal challenges, the Acting National Chairman assured the BoT that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for February 2025, would proceed as planned to reinforce party discipline and cohesion.

On national issues, the BoT raised alarm over worsening economic and security conditions, attributing them to the policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It condemned the government’s failure to curb inflation, unjustified tax hikes, and increases in fuel prices, electricity tariffs, and telecom charges—factors it claimed were crippling the productive sector and worsening the cost of living.

The BoT further accused the APC administration of lacking the competence and transparency required to harness Nigeria’s vast resources for national development. It demanded urgent policy reversals, including economic stimulus measures to create jobs and revive struggling industries.

In a gesture of condolence, the BoT extended sympathies to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over the passing of his elder brother and to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed on the loss of his stepmother.

Reaffirming its commitment to democracy and national progress, the BoT assured party members and Nigerians that the PDP remains united and dedicated to ensuring good governance.
