Plateau Security: DHQ responds to falsehoods circulating about military personnel

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a formal response to a malicious video circulating in the media, created by Reverend Timothy Daluk, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Mangu Chapter.

According o Acting Director Defence Information Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the video aimed to tarnish the reputation of military personnel deployed to address security challenges in the Mangu general area.

In the video, baseless and untrue accusations were made, alleging bias within the military and its support for a specific group over others. The DHQ categorically denies these claims, asserting that they are without merit, malicious, and lack any reasonable foundation.

The incident in question took place on January 23, 2024, when a security breach occurred in the Mangu municipal area, leading to the Plateau state government declaring a 24-hour curfew. In response, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN were reinforced in Mangu to enforce the curfew and bring the situation under control, preventing its spread to other areas. The military personnel executed their duties professionally, adhering to rules of engagement. Notably, they successfully arrested individuals involved in looting and property destruction, while also recovering weapons.

Expressing deep concern, the DHQ highlighted the disconcerting behavior of a religious leader, Reverend Timothy Daluk, who, instead of exhibiting high moral judgment and truthfulness, resorted to spreading falsehoods about the military and its personnel. The DHQ reiterates the military’s commitment to neutrality, professionalism, and dedication to its constitutional role of safeguarding the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.

The DHQ emphasizes its determination to deal impartially with any individual found disobeying the law, regardless of their societal status. The public is called upon to support ongoing military operations aimed at neutralizing non-state actors in troubled areas of the state. The DHQ asserts that baseless accusations will not distract them from their mission to restore peace and security. Individuals making malicious comments against the military are strongly cautioned to cease such acts, as constitutional redress will be pursued for any spreading of falsehoods.

The DHQ expresses gratitude to law-abiding citizens for their support and cooperation, assuring the public of its unwavering dedication to preserving peace and security in the country.
