Police arrest 130 foreign nationals and Nigerians for cybercrimes, hacking in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 suspects, including 113 foreign nationals and 17 Nigerians, in connection with high-level cybercrimes, hacking activities, and potential threats to national security.

The suspects, primarily of Chinese and Malaysian origin, were apprehended during a coordinated raid on a building in the Next Cash and Carry area of Jahi, Abuja.

The raid targeted individuals allegedly using computers and other sophisticated devices to carry out illegal operations.

The operation, led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7, AIG Benneth Igweh, was conducted on Saturday, November 2, 2024, and involved officers from the Zone 7 Command and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).

In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the seizure of various electronic devices from the scene.

He emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway, with scientific analysis of the recovered evidence to build a robust case.  The suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The Inspector General of Police has assured the public of regular updates on the investigation’s progress and any broader security implications uncovered.
