The Kano State Police Command has arrested 79 suspects and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs during security operations conducted before, during and after the 2026 Takutaha celebration, which passed peacefully across the state.
The celebration, held on September 1, 2026, recorded no major security disruption, a development the Command attributed to coordinated, intelligence-led and proactive policing measures deployed across Kano.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation, prayers and orderly conduct, saying their support contributed significantly to the peaceful celebration.
Bakori also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, sister security agencies, vigilante groups and other partners for their collaboration in maintaining security during the festivities.
The Commissioner said the operations were conducted in line with the strategic policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, particularly the emphasis on intelligence gathering, sustained clearance operations and community-based policing.
According to the Command, the 79 suspects were arrested for various offences during coordinated operations carried out by the Anti-Daba, Anti-Kidnapping and VCRU tactical units, as well as personnel from Ungogo, Sharada, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo, Mandawari, Kwalli and Gwale Police Divisions.
The operations also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs from some of the suspects.
The Command said the suspects remain in custody undergoing investigation and would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
It added that another incident involving a casualty had also been reported and was under investigation.
The Kano Police Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining peace and public safety across the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information on suspicious persons and activities.
