The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman who later died after reportedly ingesting a toxic substance.
Police said the arrest followed a petition alleging that the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, at the invitation of the 40-year-old suspect, who had allegedly promised to train her in content creation through a programme promoted on his social media platforms.
According to the Command, upon arriving in Asaba, the woman was allegedly taken to a hotel by the suspect, where she was raped and physically assaulted. She reportedly returned home traumatised and disclosed the alleged incident to her parents.
The police further disclosed that before her death, the woman recorded a video in which she narrated her ordeal and the emotional distress she suffered following the alleged assault. She was later said to have ingested a poisonous substance and died despite efforts to save her.
Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to launch an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
Acting on the directive, operatives swiftly commenced investigations, leading to the arrest of Ogbonna. Police said the suspect made useful statements during preliminary interrogation, while investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
CP Oyeniyi assured the deceased’s family and the public that the Command would conduct a thorough, professional and impartial investigation, stressing that no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that appropriate legal action is taken in accordance with the law.
