Police arrest six after deadly attack on tactical teams in Benue

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspects in connection with the deadly attack on its Tactical Teams by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, claimed the lives of three police officers, while seven others remain missing.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin in a statement on Sunday, said the Commissioner of Police in Benue State, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is leading an ongoing response operation aimed at rescuing the missing officers and apprehending fleeing suspects.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, condemned the attack as “cruel and unwarranted,” describing it as an affront to the peace-loving people of Benue State. He directed the immediate deployment of additional tactical assets to strengthen the operation and assured that no stone would be left unturned in restoring security in the area.

The arrested suspects are currently in custody and providing useful information to investigators.

The Force appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies as efforts intensify to rescue the missing personnel, track down perpetrators, and dismantle the criminal networks responsible for the violence.
