The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl and impregnating her.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, Abuja SP Josephine Adeh said the suspect was arrested on October 2, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park in Abuja.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the officers noticed a fully tinted navy blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows wound up. The officers became suspicious after observing the vehicle shaking and proceeded to inspect it.
The police said the officers opened the vehicle and allegedly found Halilu sexually assaulting the 12-year-old girl.
The suspect was immediately arrested, while the victim was rescued and taken to safety.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Command, indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the minor on several occasions inside the vehicle at the same location.
Police further alleged that Halilu threatened to “deal with her” if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
A subsequent medical examination reportedly revealed that the victim is approximately three months pregnant.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations. The Command said he would be charged to court thereafter.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of children under their care.
