Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected cultists and recovered a pump-action gun, live ammunition, suspected illicit drugs, and other items during a raid on a criminal hideout in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
In a statement the Command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Delta State Police Command said the operation, carried out by the Command Anti-Cultism Unit (CACU) on June 19, 2026, followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected cult members in the area.
According to the Police, the raid was conducted at about 11:45 p.m. and led to the arrest of 26-year-old Okonkwo Prosper and 25-year-old Tuesday Emmanuel, both from Aniofu community in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Items recovered during a search of the hideout included an English-made pump-action gun loaded with five live cartridges, a cutlass, charms, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects are alleged members of a cult group believed to be linked to several cult-related clashes in Ibusa and neighbouring communities. The suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the group who reportedly fled during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
He warned individuals involved in cult-related activities to desist from such acts or face legal consequences, while urging residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime-fighting efforts.
