The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has arrested 28-year-old Dauda Samuel for his alleged involvement in a police recruitment scam, cyber fraud, and identity theft.
Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the arrest followed credible intelligence and multiple complaints from the public about an individual impersonating Deputy Inspector-General of Police Frank Mba on Facebook. The suspect allegedly used fake social media accounts bearing DIG Mba’s name and image to promote a bogus police recruitment exercise, fraudulently collecting money from unsuspecting Nigerians with false promises of employment.
Samuel was apprehended in Panda Village, Nasarawa State, and has reportedly confessed to the crime. He is currently assisting police investigators with information as forensic efforts continue to trace possible accomplices and digital links to the fraudulent activities.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has warned cybercriminals to desist or face prosecution. He also urged Nigerians to exercise caution online, especially when confronted with offers that seem too good to be true.
