The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has moved to defuse tensions between farmers and herders in Dabiri and Paiko villages in Gwagwalada Area Council, following reports of civil unrest, urging both groups to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, gave the warning on Monday, October 19, 2026, during a meeting with leaders representing the two groups at the command headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts by the police to restore public confidence, sustain peace and prevent further escalation of tensions in the affected communities.

Sanusi called on both parties to resolve their differences through dialogue and lawful means, warning that incitement, retaliation and other provocative actions would not be tolerated.

He stressed that disputes between farmers and herders must not degenerate into violence capable of threatening lives, property and the security of neighbouring communities.

The police commissioner also urged the leaders to cooperate with security agencies in identifying and handing over individuals responsible for the attacks, emphasising that the actions of a few persons must not endanger entire communities.

According to the command, the situation in the affected areas is under control, while normalcy has been restored and security measures strengthened to prevent a fresh breakdown of law and order.

The command appealed to residents of Dabiri and neighbouring communities to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel deployed to the area.

It also encouraged law-abiding residents to return to their legitimate businesses without fear, while urging farmers and herders to maintain peaceful relations and refrain from actions capable of reigniting tensions.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command further advised residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.

Residents were also urged to contact the command through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order and ensuring peaceful coexistence among communities across the territory.
