The Kano State Police Command has dismantled a notorious syndicate of fake police officers operating across parts of northern Nigeria, arresting five suspects during a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the operation was carried out on Wednesday, October 16, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
The suspects — identified as Aliyu Abbas (35), Sani Iliyasu (47), Ashiru Sule (41), Abubakar Yahaya (45), and Adamu Kalilu (45) — were arrested while parading themselves as police officers.
Items recovered from them include a fake police warrant card, a pair of handcuffs, ₂,500 CFA, mutilated naira notes in various denominations, and their operational vehicle, a blue Peugeot 406 with registration number NSR-188-BD.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to using forged police credentials to extort unsuspecting citizens and engage in other criminal activities across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna States.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the swift action of the SIS operatives and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to rooting out all forms of criminal impersonation and illegal activity in the state. “The Kano State Police Command remains resolute in upholding law and order. We will not tolerate any individual or group masquerading as security personnel to exploit or harm law-abiding citizens,” CP Bakori stated.

The suspects, according to the police, will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
