The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has addressed recent allegations involving Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun in a land dispute between Ms. Bilikisu Ishaqu Aliyu and the Yesufu family.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the NPF clarified that these claims, which portray the police as meddlesome and lawless, are baseless and misleading.
In response to a publication by AIT on July 10, 2024, titled “Yesufu Family Seeks Justice As Police Authorities Fail to Investigate Bilikisu Ishaqu,” the NPF emphasized that the IGP should not be implicated in civil disputes. The NPF’s primary role is to maintain law and order and ensure public safety, intervening only when criminal elements are involved.
The police also refuted allegations of a conflict between the NPF and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), asserting that both agencies maintain a cooperative and professional relationship. Any claims to the contrary are seen as attempts to create unnecessary tension and mislead the public.
The NPF urged aggrieved parties to follow proper channels for any intervention required from the IGP, instead of resorting to media blackmail. The Force remains committed to addressing legitimate concerns and assisting where necessary, provided correct procedures are followed.
The public is encouraged to disregard these unfounded media claims and continue seeking police intervention for issues that could trigger crises and violence. The NPF remains dedicated to promoting peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
