The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has handed over 69 bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, formally handed over the exhibits on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in the fight against drug trafficking and related offences.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the exhibits were recovered on September 27, 2025, during coordinated operations conducted by the Command’s Anti-Narcotics Unit.

Adeh said the exhibits remained in police custody while investigations continued, leading to the recovery of additional bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

She explained that following the conclusion of the necessary investigative processes, the exhibits were formally transferred to the NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution in line with the agency’s statutory mandate.

Speaking during the handover, Sanusi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening cooperation, intelligence sharing and operational support among security agencies to disrupt criminal networks and bring offenders to justice.

The police commissioner also urged residents to provide credible and timely information to the police and other relevant security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offences and other criminal activities.

The Command reiterated its commitment to working with sister security agencies to enhance public safety and build a safer Federal Capital Territory free from the harmful effects of illicit drugs.
