Police intensify efforts against kidnapping: three suspects neutralized, victims rescued

In a determined effort to strengthen internal security and ensure the safety of all Nigerians, the Nigeria Police Force has reasserted its commitment to combatting kidnapping and related crimes.

In a recent high-risk operation on December 31, 2024, police operatives in Kwande LGA, Benue State, successfully rescued a kidnapping victim and neutralized three suspects during a confrontation.

According to Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operation commenced following a distress call to the Vandiekya Police Divisional Headquarters about the abduction of Tor Gajir by unidentified gunmen.

The police promptly traced the crime to Desmond Ahar, who, under interrogation, led officers to the kidnappers’ hideout in Adikpo.

The suspects engaged the police in a gunfight, resulting in the neutralization of three kidnappers, while others escaped with injuries. The rescued victim received immediate medical attention, and police recovered two AK-47 rifles, six loaded magazines, and several rounds of live ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional weapons.

In a separate incident on December 28, 2024, Nasarawa State police operatives rescued two hostages along the Keffi-Kaduna Highway. The victims were found unharmed after their captors fled, and a search for the kidnappers continues.

Most recently, on January 7, 2025, Bayelsa State Command officers arrested Usman Mohammed during a search operation. The officers seized an AK-47 rifle, a Type 09 AR, four magazines, and 120 rounds of ammunition. Mohammed remains in custody as investigations proceed.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun praised the operatives’ bravery and urged continued vigilance and community cooperation in ensuring national security.
