The Delta State Police Command has recorded a significant operational success in its ongoing offensive against kidnapping and violent crimes, following the death of two suspected kidnappers, the rescue of two victims, and the recovery of arms and ransom money in a coordinated security operation.
According to Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the operation, conducted in the early hours of April 9, 2026, was carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad in collaboration with military personnel under an intelligence-led mission directed across identified criminal hideouts in the state.
According to the Command, the operation followed reports of kidnapping incidents in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City, Ogwashi-Uku, which led security forces to a suspected hideout along the Obulu-Uku Power Line.
On arrival at the location, the operatives reportedly came under fire from suspected kidnappers, prompting a gun duel. The security team responded with superior firepower, resulting in the rescue of two female victims and the fatal injury of two members of the kidnapping syndicate.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and ₦4.2 million suspected to be part of ransom payments collected from victims.
The injured suspects were taken to hospital, where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty. Security operatives have also launched a follow-up search of surrounding bushes to apprehend fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and praised the inter-agency cooperation with the military, describing it as critical to sustaining the fight against violent crime in the state.
He assured residents of the Command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing security operations.
