The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against a police officer captured in a viral social media video allegedly displaying conduct unbecoming of a serving member of the Force.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed that the disciplinary process will be thorough and in line with established internal procedures.
The officer, identified by the Ekiti State Police Command as a Sergeant attached to the Ikole-Ekiti Divisional Headquarters in Ekiti State, has been taken into custody pending further disciplinary measures.
According to the Force, immediate action was taken after the video surfaced online, prompting internal identification and arrest of the officer involved.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation of the officer. The assessment, according to the Command, is a mandatory step before formal disciplinary proceedings are concluded.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, strongly condemned the conduct depicted in the footage, describing it as a gross violation of the discipline, professionalism and ethical standards expected of personnel of the Force.
He reiterated that the Police maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards substance abuse and any behaviour capable of undermining the integrity of the uniform or eroding public trust in the institution.
