- CP Kanayo Pledges Commitment to Sustain Proactive Policing Goals in 2024
In a targeted operation, Enugu State Police Command’s Operatives, acting on credible intelligence provided by the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), successfully raided a criminal hideout in the Centenary City area of Obeagu-Awkunanaw community, located in Enugu South Local Government Area. The operation, executed by the Enugu Area Command, unfolded on Friday, January 19, 2024, resulting in the arrest of three male suspects and the confiscation of significant weapons and exhibits.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, State Headquarters, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said the apprehended suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Nwabundo, aged 39, from Abia State, Emmanuel Eze, aged 35, and Anthony Onoche George, aged 30, both hailing from Anambra State. Notably, several other individuals managed to evade capture during the operation.
Among the seized items were eight pump-action guns, accompanied by four live and twenty-six expended cartridges. Additionally, law enforcement recovered one machete, four solar-powered CCTV cameras, thirteen assorted phones, one DVD player, and four bags of clothes, all suspected to be stolen. Objects believed to be charms were also found at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the criminal elements targeted in the operation have been utilizing the location as a hub for planning and executing various criminal activities, including armed robbery and kidnapping, within the Enugu metropolis and its surrounding areas.
The arrested suspects will face legal consequences as they are set to be arraigned in court once the investigations are concluded.
Commending the operatives for their successful execution of the operation, Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), reiterated the Enugu State Police Command’s unwavering commitment to proactive and forward-looking policing. He emphasized the importance of ridding the state of persistent criminal activities and ensuring the safety of its residents.
