Police parade over 45 suspected cultists in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested and paraded over 45 suspects involved in various crimes, including kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms.

State Commissioner of Police Funsho Adeboye highlighted the alarming rate of cult-related killings, asserting the police’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the state with the support of the state government.

Addressing the recent murder of a female final-year student at the University of Benin, Adeboye assured the public that the perpetrators would be apprehended soon. “The Inspector General of Police has given us a matching order to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he stated.

Adeboye praised the new anti-cultism law enacted by the state government, which has significantly eased the prosecution of cultists. “This law has been instrumental in our efforts to tackle cultism and related crimes,” he noted.

Investigations have revealed strong links between cultism and the recent surge in criminal activities. “These gangsters, regardless of the names they use, are criminals causing unrest in Edo State,” said Adeboye.

The Commissioner listed items recovered from the suspects, including several locally made single barrels, pump action guns, cut-to-size pistols, cartridges, and various types of phones. He appealed for continued public cooperation, emphasizing the importance of useful information in combating crime.

“We are making significant progress in our fight against crime, thanks to the collaboration with the press and other stakeholders,” Adeboye concluded.
