The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that five of its officers are under investigation after a viral video showed them assisting a politician in distributing cash to members of the public.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House, was found to be unrelated to the re-run and by-elections held on August 16, 2025.
According to the Command, the officers had been deployed for security at the event but were captured engaging in what it described as “unprofessional conduct.”
Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said disciplinary measures are already being taken against the erring officers to safeguard the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Command remains committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline and ethics while ensuring the trust and confidence of the public,” Kiyawa stated.
