Police raid criminal hideouts in Delta, arrest 15 suspects

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities, arresting 15 suspected cultists and armed robbers in coordinated operations across the state.

In a statement issued on May 1, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said the arrests followed intelligence-led raids targeting identified criminal hideouts.

According to the statement, operatives of Safe Delta, Operation Delta Sweep and Operation Delta Shield, acting on directives from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), stormed a notorious black spot known as Best Lodge in Oko Community on April 27 at about 11:30 a.m. The raid led to the arrest of 14 suspects—13 males and one female.

Items recovered during the operation include a locally made cut-to-size pistol, three live cartridges, two bags of substances suspected to be cannabis, four daggers, a cutlass, several mobile phones and ₦133,100 believed to be proceeds of crime. Police said investigations are ongoing.

In a related operation the same day, operatives of Operation Delta Shield apprehended a 26-year-old suspect, identified as Chidebere Irunkwor, during a stop-and-search exercise along Kingsley Street. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and 10 euros.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicate that the suspect is a member of the Eiye confraternity. He remains in custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing and sustained pressure on criminal elements through intelligence-driven operations. He also urged residents to support law enforcement agencies with credible information, assuring that all tips would be treated with confidentiality.
