Police rescue 11 hostages, arrest two kidnap suspects in Katsina, Delta

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing nationwide operations against violent crime, with the rescue of 11 kidnapped victims and the arrest of two suspected kidnappers in Katsina and Delta States.

Confirming the report in a press statement, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said in Katsina State, operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF), comprising police and other security personnel, foiled a kidnap attempt on June 8, 2025, along the Danmusa–Mara Dangeza road in Danmusa Local Government Area. A gunfight ensued as the kidnappers attempted to escape with their captives, but the security team overpowered them, forcing the suspects to flee with gunshot wounds. All 11 kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt.

In Delta State, officers from the CP-Special Assignment Team, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Abubakar Hassan (30), a suspected leader of a cross-state kidnapping syndicate operating across Delta, Rivers, Imo, and Enugu States. He reportedly confessed to coordinating operations along the Ughelli-Ozoro axis and led police to a forest hideout in Ozoro where two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 32 rounds of live ammunition were recovered. His arrest follows earlier detentions of three gang members.

Additionally, Safer Highway Patrol officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle during a routine stop-and-search operation along Ughelli Road. A search of the vehicle revealed a locally fabricated revolver, a pump-action rifle, and 15 live cartridges. The driver, Obi Ezekiel (38), was taken into custody.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., has commended the operatives for their courage and professionalism, urging all commands to sustain the pressure on criminal elements. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to eradicating violent crime and ensuring public safety across Nigeria.
