The Nigeria Police Force has achieved major breakthroughs in ongoing operations against violent crime, with successful crackdowns on kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates across the country.

In the Federal Capital Territory, police operatives from the FCT Command, acting on credible intelligence, disrupted an armed robbery and carjacking gang known for a series of high-profile heists across Abuja. The joint operation, carried out around the Maitama area, led to a fierce exchange of gunfire after suspects opened fire on officers.

Confirming the report, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, AbujaACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said one of the gang’s most wanted members, Abdulmininu Bello, alias Babanle, was fatally wounded during the gun battle, while seven others were arrested.

Among the apprehended suspects were two ex-convicts, Ibrahim Muhammad (22) and Isiaka Adamu, along with Abubakar Abdullahi (22), Sarajo Yusuf (20), Sanusi Ali (51), Abubakar Sani, and Abdullahi Isah.

Recovered from the scene were four AK-47 rifles, two locally made pistols with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a locally made shotgun, a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, and a red Boxer motorcycle.

In a separate operation in Jigawa State, police rescued 80-year-old Hajiya Hajara, who was abducted by a 12-man armed gang from her home in Sarbi Village, Minjibir LGA, Kano. Acting swiftly on intelligence, police teams, in collaboration with local security groups, stormed the gang’s hideout between Danzomo and Medi villages.

A heavy gunfight ensued, resulting in the neutralization of five kidnappers, including the group’s ringleader, Yahaya (35). Five other suspects were arrested, and the victim was rescued unhurt and later discharged after medical evaluation.

Recovered items included two AK-47 rifles, a locally fabricated LAR rifle, 14 rounds of live ammunition, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the operatives for their bravery and professionalism. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, reaffirming the Police Force’s unwavering commitment to national security and public safety.
