Police reunite missing teen with family in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the successful identification and reunification of a missing teenager earlier found in Dadin Kowa Village, Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, police said investigations revealed that the teenager—who initially claimed to be a Spanish national named Alex Ansol—was in fact 16-year-old Yusuf Sabiu.

Further inquiries led to the identification of his parents as Saminu Yusuf, 44, from Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and Habiba Alhassan Adam, 35, from Plateau State. Police disclosed that the parents have been separated for over 13 years.

The teenager was formally handed over to his parents at the Doguwa Police Division.

The Command commended members of the media and the public for their prompt dissemination of information regarding the case, noting that their cooperation significantly aided efforts to trace the boy’s family and resolve the matter swiftly.

It also urged parents and guardians to report missing persons promptly to the nearest police station, stressing that early reporting enhances response time and improves the chances of safe recovery.

Additionally, the police advised separated or divorced parents to maintain effective communication regarding the welfare of their children, noting that a stable support system is crucial in preventing cases of neglect and exposure to danger.

Residents were further encouraged to utilise emergency contact lines or the “NPF Rescue Me” application to report incidents and seek assistance when necessary.
