The Commission elevated 14 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG), further reinforcing the organizational structure. However, one promotion was temporarily halted pending a review of pending disciplinary matters against the concerned officer, as reported by the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly appointed AIGs include prominent figures such as Yetunde O. Longe, Haruna Gabriel Garba, Tajudeen Akinwale Abass, and others, reflecting a diverse range of experienced leaders in law enforcement.
In addition to the AIG appointments, the Commission promoted 21 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) to the substantive rank of Commissioners, 20 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners, 109 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners, and 184 Superintendents to Chief Superintendents. Dr. Arase expressed the Commission’s discomfort with the current wave of criminal assaults and urged officers to proactively engage in predictive policing to counter criminal activities.
During an interactive session, Dr. Arase charged the officers to embrace their new responsibilities with dedication and to consider their promotions as a call to greater service to their nation. He emphasized that the officers would be held accountable for any lapses in the security apparatus, urging them to leverage their new ranks to enhance national security.
The newly promoted officers, including Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners, underwent interactive promotion interviews, a prerequisite for their elevation. The PSC Chairman encouraged them to be well-versed in crime trends and patterns within their areas of responsibility, fostering a proactive approach to law enforcement.
The promotions, as endorsed by Dr. Arase, are expected to further inspire the indomitable spirit of the officers and enhance their commitment to safeguarding the nation. The Chairman conveyed anticipatory approval for the appointments and promotions recommended by the Inspector General of Police, signaling the PSC’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the Nigerian Police Force.
