The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Monday Agbonika, former Commissioner of Police, Mounted Troop, as the new Commissioner of Police for Edo State. He succeeds CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin.
In a statement Head, Press and Public Relations Ikechukwu Ani said Agbonika’s appointment followed a posting interview at the PSC, chaired by retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, alongside Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd.) and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the Commission’s Secretary.
The PSC urged Agbonika to act swiftly to curb crime in Edo and address the recent killings in the state. He was reminded that his handling of the arrested suspects from these incidents would be crucial to his success. The Commission advised him to engage key stakeholders, maintain proper documentation of all incidents, and ensure transparent communication with relevant authorities.
Additionally, Agbonika was cautioned against sidelining essential police departments in favor of tactical units. In response, he assured the Commission of his commitment to upholding the law and working closely with the Inspector General of Police.
With 32 years of experience across operations, investigation, administration, and public information, Agbonika has held several key positions, including Commissioner of Police Communications (Operations), Deputy Commissioner of Interpol at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, and various leadership roles across multiple states.
