In a significant development, the Police Service Commission has announced the scheduling of the Computer Based Test (CBT) for successful applicants in the ongoing police recruitment drive.
In a statement on Thursday February 15th, 2024, Head of Press and Public Relations Ikechukwu Ani said the examination is set to take place on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, across various centers nationwide.
Following an extensive process of credentials verification and physical screening conducted throughout the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, a total of 171,956 applicants have been identified as successful candidates eligible to participate in the upcoming Computer Based Test. Notably, these candidates are vying for General Duty positions within the police force.
Additionally, the Commission revealed that 43,778 applicants from the specialist cadre, who also passed the screening exercise, will undergo practical tests at a later date to be announced by the Commission.

The decision to entrust the conduct of the Computer Based Test to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) was made during the Meeting of the Police Recruitment Board on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024. This move underscores JAMB’s established expertise in conducting standardized examinations.
Among the successful candidates shortlisted for the Computer Based Test, 25,818 are female, while 146,138 are male. Notably, Kaduna State is set to present the highest number of candidates for the tests with 12,343 applicants, followed closely by Bauchi with 10,911, Benue with 10,532, and Katsina with 10,457 candidates.
Conversely, Anambra State has the lowest number of candidates with 343 applicants, trailed by Lagos with 504, and Ebonyi with 600 applicants.
Successful candidates from the Computer Based Test will be required to undergo medical examinations before proceeding for training, as outlined by Dr. Solomon Arase CFR, retired Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the Commission.

Dr. Arase expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to strengthen and rejuvenate the Police Force, emphasizing the importance of swiftly integrating successful candidates into the system to bolster efforts against insurgency and banditry.
Furthermore, Dr. Arase reiterated the Commission’s commitment to fostering a citizen-oriented and friendly police force, equipped with proper training and resources to provide effective leadership in ensuring national security.
