In a significant breakthrough, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) successfully apprehended three fraudsters in Idumota, Lagos, as they held a 23-year-old victim hostage. The victim, whose identity is withheld for security reasons, had a harrowing experience while heading to Iyana Oworo from Gerard Road Ikoyi.
The suspects, operating in a Volkswagen Vento salon car with registration number BDG 513 EJ, forcibly diverted the victim to Idumota. The individuals identified as Austin Okoro (aged 47), who was the apparent ringleader, Godwin Asezour (aged 54), and Susan Elohor (aged 42), seized the opportunity to introduce the victim to their alleged money-doubling scheme during the diversion.
However, the victim’s presence of mind saved her from becoming a victim of their fraudulent activities. Upon spotting an RRS patrol team in Idumota, she promptly raised the alarm, drawing the attention of law enforcement officers to the unfolding situation.
This alert action led to the swift arrest of the three suspects by the RRS team on the scene. Following their apprehension, a comprehensive investigation was carried out under the leadership of CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi of RRS.
The three suspects are now facing legal consequences, as they have been formally charged in court. Their arrest serves as a reminder of the vigilance and dedication of the Rapid Response Squad in maintaining law and order in Lagos State. The RRS continues to uphold its commitment to protecting residents and ensuring that criminal activities are met with swift and decisive action.
This successful operation highlights the importance of collaboration between the police and the public in combatting fraud and other criminal activities. Law enforcement agencies encourage citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, as it is essential in maintaining the security and safety of our communities.
