Rotary Club to launch digital library, healthcare, and environmental initiatives in Abuja

Communities in Abuja are set to benefit from a series of transformative projects by the Rotary Club, including digital library transformation, healthcare, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and environmental programs, over the next year.

The projects, collectively valued at N16.5 million, will allocate N5 million for the digital library, N6.5 million for healthcare, N4 million for the WASH program, and N1 million for tree planting initiatives.

During his inauguration as the President of Rotary Club of Wuse Central (2024-2025), Dr. Tomola Emaleku vowed to enhance education, healthcare, economic development, and environmental protection in the community. Emaleku, who succeeded Dr. Albert Alkali, made this commitment in his acceptance speech as the 26th President of the club at the investiture ceremony held on Monday night in Abuja.

Emaleku, an Associate Accountant and Fraud Examiner (ACCrFA), emphasized the club’s dedication to excellence and community impact in the upcoming year. He urged supporters to help realize these initiatives, which aim to uplift the community significantly.

“We will work together to make a positive impact in our community and beyond, through projects that promote education, healthcare, economic development, and environmental protection,” Emaleku stated.

He also highlighted a focus on peacebuilding and conflict prevention, disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health, and community economic development.

Ms. Sarah Sanda, a former Special Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Media and a past president of the club, praised Emaleku’s project plans for addressing critical community challenges. Sanda pledged her support for fundraising efforts to ensure the projects’ successful completion.

“Planting trees is crucial for combating land degradation and deforestation. We need more people to join us in this vital work. We call on well-meaning Nigerians and international organizations to support the project implementation,” Sanda said.

The event also featured the official inauguration of the 2024-2025 Board of Directors, the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities, and a virtual presentation of the proposed projects.
