In a formal statement released today, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed profound gratitude for the Supreme Court’s recent validation of the electoral mandate conferred upon him by the people of Lagos State in the elections held on March 18, 2023.
The governor emphasized that this triumph was not confined to his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, but rather constituted a victory for the rule of law, democracy, and the entire populace of Lagos State. Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the inclusive governance approach, in effect since assuming office in May 2019, underscoring the absence of victors or vanquished in the electoral process.
Extending an invitation to those on the sidelines, the governor urged their participation in the progressive governance movement, emphasizing a commitment to diverse ideas and collective efforts aimed at the state’s advancement.
Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the judicial pronouncements, including those from the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Lagos, expressing unwavering confidence in the country’s judicial system. Commending the judges for their meticulous and well-thought-out judgment, he appreciated their dedication to fairness and justice.
The governor expressed gratitude to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opportunity to represent them in the governorship election, commending party leaders and members for their tireless efforts that secured victory at the polls.
Special recognition was accorded to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for his pivotal role in deepening the country’s democracy. Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy conveyed their sense of privilege at serving during this crucial moment in the state’s history and thanked all Lagosians for their unwavering support.
Reiterating their commitment to service, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the judicial victory would serve as a catalyst for the government to intensify efforts in delivering on promises made to the people.
