The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, has announced the generation of over ₦847 million in revenue for the month of April 2025, reflecting a significant stride in curbing revenue leakages and enhancing trade compliance at the Nigeria–Benin border.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the Area Comptroller, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, disclosed that the Command recorded a total revenue of ₦847,058,879.30 through what he described as “commitment and professionalism.”
“This achievement reflects our sustained efforts to block all revenue leakages and ensure every legitimate kobo due to the Federal Government is collected without compromise,” he said.
In alignment with the Federal Government’s non-oil economic diversification agenda, Dr. Oramalugo revealed that the Command also facilitated the export of 2,029 trucks, carrying over 88,000 metric tonnes of Nigerian-made goods. The goods had a Free On Board (FOB) value of ₦16.9 billion, while the National Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) fees amounted to ₦84.5 million.
He emphasized the Command’s strategic role in promoting national economic growth through efficient border operations and support for local manufacturers.
The Comptroller also issued a strong warning to the public against fraudsters impersonating Customs officials and falsely claiming to auction or sell vehicles online.
“These scammers typically operate on social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook,” he said. “The Nigeria Customs Service does not sell or auction seized items through unverified platforms. Only follow verified channels with official blue ticks or direct communication from the Service.”
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to its core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling enforcement, Dr. Oramalugo urged residents in border communities to discourage their youths from engaging in smuggling or obstructing law enforcement operations.
“The Command remains resolute in safeguarding national economic interests and security,” he concluded.
