From February 26 to March 1, 2024, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), is currently participating in the Annual African Air Chiefs Symposium (AACS) in Tunis, Tunisia.

According to Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, this significant gathering, organized by the Association of African Air Forces (AAAF) and sponsored by the United States Air Force for Europe and Air Force Africa, marks a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing multinational security cooperation.

The AACS serves as a vital platform for African air chiefs to address prevalent challenges and bolster collaboration among their respective air forces. With a focus on strategic airlift, capacity enhancement, and the exchange of best practices, the symposium endeavors to fortify partner networks while fostering effective military relationships. Under the theme “Pan-African Education and Training Opportunities,” this year’s symposium will delve into critical issues such as women, peace, security, and air mobility.

Facilitating dialogue among defense decision-makers from Africa and beyond, the symposium provides a unique opportunity to deliberate on emerging developments in air operations and strategies, alongside advancements in technology. Approximately 40 African Air Force Chiefs are participating in this year’s event, highlighting its significance in the realm of African defense cooperation.

For Air Marshal Abubakar, this symposium resonates with his Command Philosophy, emphasizing Research and Development, strategic partnerships, and technological innovation. It offers a platform to exchange ideas and explore strategies aligned with Nigeria Air Force’s ongoing efforts in counterinsurgency and counterterrorism within a joint operating environment.
