The African Future Trust Model United Nations (TAFMUN) recently hosted its highly anticipated 2023 Model Conference in Abuja, centering around the theme “The Future of Our Environment.” The event was designed to deepen the understanding of young people regarding the United Nations (UN) and the importance of multilateralism.
In a significant show of support, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Nigeria, Mr. Ronald Kayanja, graced the occasion, delivering an insightful message on behalf of the UN. Mr. Kayanja emphasized the critical role of youth in shaping the future and urged them to embrace core values such as tolerance, integrity, consensus building, compromise, and respect for diversity, all of which are enshrined in the UN Charter.
He encouraged the young attendees to embody these principles as they prepare to assume leadership responsibilities in society.

The opening session of the African Trust Model United Nations unfolded at the prestigious Rotunda Auditorium within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. This symbolic venue underscored the importance of diplomacy and international cooperation in addressing global challenges, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability.
Notably, the TAFMUN Conference also attracted international representation, with the presence of the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria. This global participation demonstrated the significance of the event as a platform for cross-cultural dialogue and collaboration, aligning with the UN’s mission to foster international peace and cooperation.
The 2023 TAFMUN Model Conference has not only imparted valuable knowledge about the UN and multilateralism but has also inspired young leaders to embrace the principles of unity, diplomacy, and collective action as they embark on their journeys towards a brighter, more sustainable future.
