Tinubu affirms commitment to Abuja as Federal Capital amid misinterpretations

In response to recent speculations and deliberate misinterpretations surrounding the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to relocate its Department of Banking Supervision to Lagos and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s directive for the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to move its head office back to Lagos, President Bola Tinubu’s administration has clarified its stance.

Addressing the public, a spokesperson emphasized that there is no validity to claims that President Tinubu intends to relocate the Federal Capital to Lagos. The administration aims to dispel the unfounded rumors and speculations circulating in some quarters.

The rumors, which initially surfaced during the previous year’s electioneering period, were attributed to political opponents seeking to impede Asiwaju Tinubu’s presidential candidacy. It is asserted that these opponents, using recent decisions by the CBN and FAAN as a pretext, are attempting to fuel ethnic mistrust and engage in a toxic opposition campaign.

The spokesperson emphasized that these claims are baseless and dishonest, perpetuated by individuals identified as ethnic and regional champions who are seeking attention. President Tinubu’s administration maintains its commitment to the established status of Abuja as the Federal Capital, emphasizing that this designation is legally supported and not subject to change.
