Tinubu appoints new NAHCON CEO, approves dissolution of NAHCON board

In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Alhaji Jalal Ahmad Arabi as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). The appointment comes with a four-year term in the first instance.

In an official statement Special Adviser to the President Media and Publicity Chief Ajuri Ngelale said President Tinubu’s directive also includes the retirement of the outgoing Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, who has been instructed to proceed on a 3-month pre-retirement leave as stipulated by the Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243. This pre-retirement leave will commence on October 18, 2023, leading to Hassan’s eventual retirement from service on January 17, 2023.

Alhaji Jalal Ahmad Arabi, the newly appointed Chairman and CEO of NAHCON, will assume office in an acting capacity starting from October 18, 2023. Subsequently, he will continue to serve in the substantive capacity for a fresh term of four years, commencing on January 17, 2023.

Furthermore, President Tinubu has approved the dissolution of the Board of NAHCON as part of this restructuring of the commission.

In issuing these directives, the President emphasizes his expectation that the new leadership of NAHCON will serve with devotion to Allah and unwavering commitment to the principles of service as outlined in the Holy Qur’an.

These changes mark a significant transition in the leadership of NAHCON and are expected to have a profound impact on the organization’s operations and its role in facilitating the annual Hajj pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims.
