President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians and members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria that the country will ultimately overcome its security challenges, pledging that the sacrifices of troops defending the nation will not be in vain.
The President gave the assurance on Friday during an interfaith breaking of fast with military personnel at the Presidential Villa.
Addressing the gathering, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and operational capacity of officers and soldiers serving on the frontlines against terrorism, banditry and other security threats.
“I commend your courage, sacrifice and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens,” the President said.
He acknowledged that many members of the armed forces remain separated from their families while confronting armed bandits and terrorist groups across various parts of the country.
Tinubu noted that the continued efforts of the security forces have significantly weakened the operational capabilities of criminal groups threatening national stability.
“You have been working tirelessly to protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain,” he said.
The President also assured the troops of continued government investment in modern military equipment, intelligence systems and logistics support to strengthen their effectiveness in ongoing operations.
Tinubu further commended Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid ongoing economic reforms, expressing optimism that the country was beginning to see the results of the difficult measures undertaken by his administration.
“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and those of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” he said.
The President also extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State over a recent terrorist attack in the state.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, Oluwafemi Oluyode, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, expressed appreciation to the President for recent approvals aimed at improving the welfare and operational effectiveness of the armed forces.
He said the approvals included an upward review of salaries for members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and increased allowances for personnel of the Brigade of Guards.
Shaibu also noted that the government had approved additional procurement of military equipment and the construction of improved accommodation for service personnel.
According to him, the measures would significantly enhance operational efficiency and morale within the armed forces.
He described the interfaith breaking of fast as a symbolic moment that allowed service members of different faiths to renew their commitment to national service and unity.
